Young Parents & Early Childhood Development Programme
Supporting young parents today to give the next generation a stronger start
PEERU recognises that investing in children today is investing in healthier, empowered and responsible young people tomorrow. Our work therefore takes a life-course and intergenerational approach, recognising that the foundations for health, learning, wellbeing and responsible decision-making are established from early childhood and continue through adolescence and young adulthood.
As a youth-focused organisation, PEERU places particular emphasis on adolescent and young parents, young mothers and fathers, pregnant adolescents, young couples and caregivers of young children. We support young parents to develop the knowledge, skills and confidence needed to provide safe, nurturing and stimulating environments in which children can grow and thrive. Our interventions promote positive and responsive parenting, early stimulation and learning, child health and nutrition, maternal and child health, immunisation, child protection and prevention of violence and neglect, father involvement, healthy family relationships and access to essential health, ECD and social-protection services.
Building on our experience in peer education, mentorship, community engagement, behaviour change communication, advocacy, capacity strengthening and service linkages, PEERU works with families, communities, ECD providers, schools, health workers and local leaders to strengthen supportive environments for children and young parents.
Through this approach, we connect early childhood, adolescence and youth development, ensuring that young people are not only supported to make informed decisions about their own lives but are also equipped to nurture the next generation.
